Autumn 1 Newsletter

Autumn half term break always seems to catch me by surprise. Everything is new and exciting after the summer holiday with the children getting to know their new teachers and routines but suddenly the days are getting shorter and colder and we are half way through! At least the children are still enthusiastic about their learning, despite the dark wet days

Parents Meetings

Year 6 parent meetings happened this week so thank you to all those families that came in. Nursery 2 to year 5 will be the second week back after half term. Please book in so we can share all the ways we can work together as well as celebrating all your children’s successes.

Need to speak to your child’s teacher across the school year?

If you need to speak to your child’s teacher, please make sure to ask for a good time to do so! Dojo messages are the best way so please do reach out on dojo if you want to speak to them about an issue or simply to ask about aspects of the day.  Remember, across the school, the teachers are working hard with children right from the start of the day. In every room, from 8.45, teachers will be working with the children so they really can’t spare too much time to talk.

Holiday Homework.

Over the break, please make sure your children are keeping up their reading. A great way to encourage them is to ask them about the books they are reading, getting them to tell the story or share the facts they have found out.

Maths Flunency is also a great time filler. Practising the times tables or spot check quizzes if they are asking for snacks and treats and also fun ways to keep them working without them realising.

Uniform

Our school uniform applies to Nursery 2 - Year 6. The correct uniform must be worn to school.  After the holidays phone calls home will be made if children are in the incorrect uniform. Children should not be wearing branded items, hooded jumpers (or 'hoodies'), track suit tops (or any 'sports' style jumpers or zip through tops) jewelry or bright colorful clothing.  Our school uniform is as follows -

The Bus Project is changing into a Memorial Reading Garden.

Many of you will of course remember why we have a bus on the school grounds, how it was always a desire of Ms Herbert’s (my predecessor as Headteacher) to have a community book and reading resource for you all to use. When she sadly died, we chose to remember her by making it happen and the plan was to convert the bus into such a resource. Sadly, The lockdown caused everything to stall and we have never again found the people with the skill and knowledge who would be able to make it happen. Now the bus is in a sorry state and we have made the decision to think again about how we can remember Ms Herbert. We have decided to honor her with a Memorial Garden instead. The bus will be going over half term and in its place we will be pulling together planters, sensory plants and seating to make a reading sanctuary for the children, all in her name of course.

Wishing Good Luck to Ms Ainsworth and Ms Valrose

Ms Asinsworth will be shortly starting her maternity leave so I am sure you will join me in wishing her (and the new additions to her family) all the best.

We will also be saying goodbye to Ms Valrose as she is retiring. Thank you Ms Val for running Breakfast Club and Afterschool Club - you will be missed.

Green Flag

While we are saying congratulations, can I draw your attention to the great work of Ms Hopkins and the Eco Council. They have just been recognised by being awarded a converted ‘Green Flag’ for the Academy. This reflects the sterling work they have done promoting eco programmes such as working reducing plastics (like disposable drinking bottles), organising planting and highlighting environmental issues both in school and in the wider community. Watch out for the next stage of ‘School Streets’, their next big project in which they will be working with Manchester City council in trying to rescue the number of cars parking outside the school gates at the start and end of the day.

And Finally …

Have a great week off and see you bright and early at 8.45 on Monday 3rd November!
