Good Afternoon parents, carers and wider family members.
It's the end of the first half of the spring term - the halfway point of the school year! If, like me, this gives you a real ‘blink and you’ve missed it’ feeling it is worth looking at all the children have accomplished across the year so far. Something I am sure you can see in the reading books they are bringing home!
I think it is also worth looking at just how much the grounds have changed across the year. We have finally redeveloped the back playground and the trim trail is being upgraded as we speak. This will of course make things a lot more exciting during the children’s social times. The new fencing looks great and we continue to move forward with the Memorial Garden. Planters and sensory plants are on their way.

Staff – Goodbyes
We have a couple of goodbyes to tell you about. Firstly, Polly will be retiring at the end of this term. Polly has been making sure the children are well fed and the school is pristine for their learning for over 20 years. Please join me in thanking her for all her hard work in making Medlock a better place for the children across this time. Polly - you will be greatly missed!
Ms Pickersgill is also leaving us to pursue new goals beyond our academy. She will also be much missed by the children and staff but again, please join me in wishing her well and saying a big thank you for all the effort she has put into making school a positive learning experience for the children she has worked with. Thank you Ms Pickersgill!
Financial Inclusion Officer – Money Matters
The Co-op Academies’ Community Team is working with Citizen’s Advice to offer a new service. I am proud to announce Co-op Academy Medlock will be one of the first schools to host a Financial Inclusion Officer. Clara will be able to offer advice, support and direction to our families. Please see the images below for further details and to see how you can book an appointment.

PE KIT - NO HOODED TOPS!
Please ensure your children do not wear hooded jumpers or sweat shirts (sometimes called ‘hoodies’). The hoods and loose fitting pockets can catch on apparatus or other children causing injury during PE. A standard school uniform blue jumper, should be worn on PE days. PE kit is a plain white t-shirt and black shorts or black slim fit sports trousers or leggings.
School uniform jumpers are dark / navy blue either with a ‘Co-op Academy Medlock’ badge or without. No other branding or pictures should be on the jumpers and again, no hooded jumpers or sweatshirts!

Homework
Quick reminder on homework. In primary school, fluency is the most important skill to have. Therefore the 2 main homework pathways we use are daily reading and times table practice (from year 3 through to year 6). Teachers will send other work out, but the daily reading and times table practice (Times Table Rock Starts - TTRS) is the most useful.
Something you can do to help is check in on their TTRS platform, see which multiplication tables they are practising and do lots of on the spot questions!
See you all on Monday 23rd of February at 8.45 and have a lovely break until then.
